Throwing Fireworks By Hand

Throwing Fireworks By Hand

Hebei province does fireworks a little differently than most Americans are accustomed to seeing on the 4th of July. Here, blacksmiths put on spectacular light shows by slinging molten iron into the night sky.

Unable to afford fireworks, blacksmiths in the rustbelt of China found a way to put on dazzling light shows using only molten iron, wooden spoons, and sheepskins.

Named Dashuhua (translated as throwing tree flowers), the breath-taking, 500-year-old tradition can only be witnessed in the Yu county of central China’s Hebei province.
